• Weather resistance : Winter rides sometimes mean snow, drizzle or strong winds. A water-repellent and windproof model is not an unnecessary luxury.

• Ease of use : You don't want to be fiddling with complicated settings while driving. A body warmer with an easily accessible button is a must. Some models even have an app that allows you to control the temperature.

Not every rider has the same needs. I know people who prefer to wear a thin, flexible bodywarmer under their jacket for that little bit of extra warmth. This type is perfect if you ride actively and your body generates a lot of heat itself.

For example, I learned that it is smart to carry the battery close to your body, so that it does not cool down too quickly and therefore lasts longer. And don't forget to always fully charge the battery before you set off. I once set off without a full battery and believe me: you only do that once.

In terms of maintenance, it is good to follow the washing instructions. Most heated body warmers cannot simply be thrown in the washing machine. Often hand washing is the safest option to avoid damaging the heating elements.

Whether you are an active rider who wears a thin model under a jacket, or prefer a thicker model with extra insulation, there is a suitable option for everyone. Think carefully about how long you are outside, how much freedom of movement you need and whether you want to be able to take extra batteries with you.
