Make Your Own Jacket Heated: How Universal Jacket Heating Works

Updated: October 2026 · By Sebastiaan, founder of Gløde · 4 min read

Keep the jacket. Add the heat.

In short: you can make your own jacket heated with a universal heating insert. Øney attaches inside your jacket or vest with adhesive Velcro strips, without sewing, in about a minute. A power bank in your pocket supplies the power. You get warmth on chest, belly and back, on three levels up to 50 °C. Your jacket stays the same on the outside.

How universal jacket heating works

  1. Stick the strips. Place the adhesive Velcro strips on the inside of your jacket: front and back. Eight strips are supplied, enough for two garments.
  2. Press the insert on. Øney has four heating elements for chest, belly and back. It is one size and needs no sewing.
  3. Connect the power bank. Plug the USB cable into a 5 V power bank and put it in a pocket.
  4. Choose your level. There are three heat levels up to 50 °C. Front and back are controlled separately, so you can warm only your back.

Øney runs on low-voltage 5 V USB, carries the CE mark and has overheating protection.

Which jackets does it suit?

Øney works in most jackets and vests that are not skin-tight. Three things matter:

  • A little room. The insert lies between you and the jacket. A regular or loose fit works well. In a very tight jacket it does not: there is no space, and the insert shows.
  • A pocket for the power bank. An inner pocket is ideal. A side pocket works too.
  • A smooth lining. The strips stick to the lining, so a clean, dry and even surface helps.

Good matches are winter coats, parkas, work jackets, waxed jackets, hunting and riding jackets and padded vests.

Washing

Take the Øney out before your jacket goes in the wash, and wash the jacket as its own label says. The insert can be washed separately: disconnect the power bank, wash at a maximum of 30 °C on a gentle cycle in a wash bag, and let it air-dry. No tumble dryer. Always follow the care label. Need fresh strips for a second or third jacket? Øney extra patches come as a set of eight.

What you need

The insert and a power bank with a USB port. Check the product page for what is in the box.

Frequently asked questions

How does universal jacket heating work?

A thin heating insert attaches inside your own jacket with adhesive Velcro strips. A cable runs to a power bank in your pocket. With the button you choose one of three heat levels, and you set front and back separately.

Can I make any jacket heated?

Almost any jacket or vest with a little room inside and a pocket for the power bank. Øney is one size. It is not a good match for very tight jackets, because the insert and the power bank need some space.

Do I need to sew anything?

No. Øney attaches with adhesive Velcro strips. You stick the strips inside your jacket and press the insert onto them. That takes about a minute. Eight strips are supplied, enough for two garments.

Which power bank do I need?

A power bank with a 5 V USB output. The Gløde power banks of 10,000 and 20,000 mAh work with Gløde clothing. The larger one keeps you warm for longer and weighs 350 g instead of 150 g.

Can I wash my jacket with the heating insert in it?

Take the Øney out before you wash your jacket, and wash the jacket as its own label says. The insert itself can be washed at a maximum of 30 °C on a gentle cycle in a wash bag, without a power bank attached. Always follow the care label.
