Heated Clothing for Skiing: Warm on the Lift, the Slope and the Terrace

Who it is for · Winter sports

The lift is the coldest run.
Heated clothing for skiing and snowboarding

You rarely get cold while skiing. You get cold on the chairlift, in the queue and on the terrace afterwards. Heated clothing for skiing fills those gaps: heated gloves for your hands and a heated vest under your ski jacket.

Where you get cold on the mountain

On the lift

Ten minutes of sitting still in the wind, straight after a warm run. Switch the vest up as you sit down and back down at the top.

At the ski school

Parents and beginners stand around a lot. The meeting point and the nursery slope are colder than any black run.

Après-ski on the terrace

The sun drops behind the ridge and the temperature follows. With a warm core you can stay outside a while longer.

Cross-country

You work hard and warm up fast, so keep the heat off or low while you move. It earns its place at the breaks and on the way back to the car.

How to use it in the snow

  • Vest as mid-layer. Base layer, heated vest, ski jacket. Take the detachable Høgge hood off first.
  • Heat in bursts. High on the lift, low or off on the run. That also stretches the power bank.
  • Warm fingertips. Øven gloves heat on three levels, from 35 to 50 °C, and are water- and windproof.
  • Wrist straps. Take a glove off on the chairlift and it stays with you.
  • Battery tip for the cold. Batteries give less when they are cold. Charge indoors overnight and keep the power bank in an inside pocket, close to your body.
  • A spare pair. Øven gloves run about 2 to 5 hours per charge. Extra glove batteries cover a full day on the slopes.

What it is not

A heated vest is a warm layer, not a ski jacket and not protective gear. And our range stops at your wrists and waist. For your feet, Gløde sells nothing, but we compare the types: best heated socks and best heated insoles. More on gloves for the slopes: heated ski gloves.

Warm on the slopes

Gloves, a vest and a spare pair of batteries: that is the whole kit.

Frequently asked questions

Can I wear a heated vest under a ski jacket?

Yes. Wear it as a mid-layer over your base layer. Take the detachable hood off so it does not bunch under your collar. Use the heat mostly on the lift and switch down on the run.

Do batteries run down faster in the cold?

Yes, batteries of every kind give less when they are cold. Charge them indoors, keep the power bank under your jacket and close to your body, and take a spare pair of glove batteries if you plan to be out all day.

How long do heated gloves last on a ski day?

Øven gloves run for about 2 to 5 hours per charge, depending on the heat level. On the lowest level you get the longest runtime. A spare pair of batteries covers a full day.

How do I wash heated clothing after a ski week?

Remove the power bank or the batteries first. Machine or hand wash at a maximum of 30 °C on a gentle cycle, in a wash bag. Let it air-dry and do not use a tumble dryer. Always follow the care label.
