Heated Clothing for Cycling: Warm on the Bike, E-Bike and Scooter

Who it is for · Cycling, e-bike and scooter

The cold rides with you.
Heated clothing for cycling, e-bikes and scooters

On a bike the cold feels sharper than the thermometer says. The air you ride through cools your hands, chest and neck first. Heated clothing for cycling adds warmth exactly there: heated gloves for your hands and a heated vest around your core.

Where it earns its place

The commute

Dark, damp and 3 °C at half past seven. With heated gloves and a vest under a windproof jacket you arrive warm, without three jumpers.

The school run

Slow cycling and a lot of waiting at the gate. You never warm up from pedalling, so warmth you can switch on is welcome.

On the e-bike

The motor does part of the work, so you make less body heat while the speed and the wind stay. Many riders feel the cold more than on an ordinary bike.

Scooter and moped

More speed and no pedalling: you sit still in the wind. A heated vest under your jacket keeps your core warm.

Layer first, then add heat

  • Wind first. A windproof outer layer often does more on a bike than extra thickness.
  • Do not overdress. If you sweat on the way, you cool down fast when you stop. Thin layers plus adjustable heat work better.
  • Start high, ride low. Use the highest of the three levels as you leave, then switch down once you are moving.
  • Hands. Øven gloves keep your fingertips warm on three levels, from 35 to 50 °C. The lining is thick, so try your brakes and gears before you set off.
  • A light power bank. The 10,000 mAh power bank weighs 150 g and gives a vest about 3–6 hours of warmth. That covers several short commutes.
  • Showers. The vests are water-repellent and Øven gloves are water- and windproof. In a real downpour, wear your rain jacket on top.

What it does not do

Heated clothing keeps you warm. It is not protective gear, and Øven gloves are everyday winter gloves, not protective motorcycle gloves. It also stops at your wrists and waist. Gløde does not sell heated socks or heated grips, but we compare the types honestly: best heated socks and heated grips for bikes and motorcycles.

Warm on the bike

Gloves for your hands, a vest for your core and a small power bank to run it.

Frequently asked questions

Which heated clothing is most useful for cycling?

Start with your hands. Heated gloves make the biggest difference, because your fingers sit in the wind and hardly move. Add a heated vest under a windproof jacket if your core gets cold too, for example on an e-bike or a long commute.

Why do I get colder on an e-bike?

On an e-bike the motor does part of the work, so your body makes less heat than on an ordinary bike. The speed and the wind stay the same or go up. That is why e-bike riders often want warmer hands and an extra warm layer.

Can I cycle in the rain with heated clothing?

Gløde vests are water-repellent and Øven gloves are water- and windproof, so showers are fine. In heavy, lasting rain, wear a rain jacket over the vest. The vests run on low-voltage 5 V USB power.

How long do heated gloves last on a ride?

Øven gloves come with one pair of 3,000 mAh batteries and run for about 2 to 5 hours, depending on the heat level. A battery level indicator on the glove shows what is left. The batteries charge via USB-C.
